The SMARTAQUA Team Applies for SAIC Funding

The SMARTAQUA team have applied for funding from SAIC (the Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Centre) to support a project that will examine Lumpfish behaviour to optimise farmed Lumpfish populations that have strong delousing tendencies.

Lumpfish are used to remove sea lice from farmed salmon and reduce the need to use harmful chemicals that would otherwise be needed for this purpose. This project would have the potential to improve Lumpfish welfare and reduce economic costs in the salmon farming industry and is based on research into Lumpfish behaviour and welfare carried out by SMARTAQUA.

SMARTAQUA: aquaculture beyond food is supported by the Welsh Government and the European Regional Development Fund.
